• Please pitch in to help me fix my current fosters' kin. I am going to have them spayed & neutered at Stray Aid (strayaid.org) for $32 per kitty plus $15 each to have the two mamas (so far) tested for FIV/FeLV. This will help me make sure my current babies are healthy and will make it easier if I am able to locate and catch the other mama's babies.

As the posts on/around 6/9 show, I took four kittens from a certain area but their relatives are everywhere there. I'd like to help their mama and aunties and cousins to be fixed. Life is so much better and easier for a neutered cat. I've counted at least around 10 cats that I'm hoping to trap. I'm down two. :)

I am asking for help because I've already spent quite a bit on my fosters and other kitties this month, and I don't have another $200 to fix all these kitties. It's sorely needed and I'm happy to do the legwork but I am hoping some kind souls will pitch in to help these sweet, super-young kitties to have a good life.

Any amount is welcome, but a really good suggested donation is $32 as that pays for a whole cat's surgery. I will put a pic up of each cat that is fixed thanks to these donations.

Regardless of what this thing says, as of 6/11 we've raised $216!!! For some reason it never updates and it drives me crazy!!

Some kitties our rescue is helping… I took pics today when they stopped by to say hi!

Last week a nice lady named Tara got in touch with us. She and her co-workers had been feeding a cat outside their job, a cat they called her Kitten Grey.  As girl cats living outside tend to do, one day she showed up with a big ol’ belly and everyone realized that she was with kitten, or kittens as the case is.  Tara took the stray cat, now Mama Grey, and her kittens home when they were newborns and she’s been kind enough to foster them ever since.  Now the kitties are of an adoptable age and she needed help getting them vetted and finding homes, which is where we stepped in.

Today the kitties and mama were all neutered, vaccinated, and de-wormed.  There are two boy kittens and two girl kittens, all little tabbies.  Mama Grey is tiny.. just a teenage mama herself.  The kittens just hit 2 lbs, the minimum weight at which we can spay/neuter.

Here are the kittens all together:

Here is one kitten, a girl:

A boy kitten:

Here is the other boy, an extremely sweet but EXTREMELY scared little kitten:

He did a bit better when he was able to crawl up into his foster mom’s hair:

I won’t post a pic of the second girl as Tara is pretty sure she’ll keep her. She’d keep Mama instead, but Mama isn’t too happy about sharing her home with Tara’s dogs. She has so far only been in a crate with a dog in the room, so it’s possible that in a normal home situation, she’d be fine with dogs. Tara said she’d let Mama Grey live outside if it were the only option for her, but let’s try to get her a home.. If she were a kitten, we would have NO PROBLEM placing her. Let’s not let her never have a cushy inside home just because she’s 4 months past her kitten prime!  She’s very small, very young, and super sweet. She just had MAJOR surgery so she’s groggy and not so happy about her picture being taken…

And here are some videos of the kittens. They stopped by one of our volunteer’s house after their surgery and she couldn’t get over how lovey-dovey they were with one another — they were just rubbing against each other and purring and being so happy and sweet. It’d be a blessing to see the three available kittens and mama go home in pairs so they could keep this sweet family love throughout their lives.

The kittens are being fostered in Lake Worth and are as of now spay/neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed. Kitten adoption fees are $45 per kitten; since the mama kitty is over 3 months, her adoption fee is just $25.  She was given a rabies vaccine and microchipped as well.  Please email us for an application, and please please please pass this on to everyone you know who may have room for a kitten (or two!) in their home!

New kittens!

Hey all! So listen to the story about my latest batch.

I drove up to Wisconsin earlier this month. I took Patty cat with me. She was the adult foster I had for months… so many kittens came and went while she was with me; nobody wanted her simply because she was an adult. I even had people remark on what a great cat she was and when I said, “She’s up for adoption too!” he said, “Yeah, she’s a nice cat, but she’s too old.” !!! Anyway, so my mom wasn’t going for getting a cat but she had a co-worker who said she’d take her.. Rather than flying with her and then renting a car and driving the 2 hrs to my town, I said I’d just drive. BRAVE. Anyway, by the time I got to Wisconsin with Patty, the co-worker had backed out (because of her husband; it’s ALWAYS the men) so my mom said she’d take her. As I guessed, she loved her right away and by the next day even my step-dad was won over.

I was looking forward to the drive home with NO ANIMALS in the car. It’s hard to travel with pets in the summer. I had to eat exclusively from drive-throughs (BK Veggie, thank you) and had to strategize bathroom breaks (middle of the night or with Patty on my lap, ha).

Well…. the DAY BEFORE I planned to leave Wisconsin, I discovered the kittens living outside my sister’s house .She lives on a farmer guy’s property and he has what they call “barn cats” aka outdoor cats, sometimes which are fed and looked after, often which are left to fend for themselves. He feeds the cats but doesn’t get them spayed so it’s litter after litter for them. The grandma to these girls has 2 of her adult kittens living with her… In seven years only two of her babies have made it to adulthood and stuck around, at least as far as I saw. It’s a hard life.. even though he feeds them, they can get sick, have to live through sub-zero winters, and many of them are eaten by bobcats and coyotes. Of these five kittens, 3 of them were sick with URIs and ringworm. Worst ringworm ever, blech. SO. As you can imagine, I realized immediately that they would be coming back to Florida with me. There was another litter around somewhere, but only 2 weeks old and no one knew where they were; they only knew that the one cat’s belly went down one day. My friend said she’d go back to get that litter and I’m hoping to raise money to get the mamacats fixed. There are no low-cost spay/neuter options in rural Wisconsin but I’m researching something within driving distance to help. (The local vet charges $130 for a spay!)

My friend Shannon and niece Amanda (and the farmer) caught the kittens. I’m sure the farmer was amused by this.. He’s a guy who seems to like the cats but doesn’t see the point of getting them spayed. But he was a good sport about it and helped. Shannon is a nursing student and helped me out by cleaning off one of the baby’s bloody, wounded tails.  Not sure if she was attacked by something or just bit her poor itchy tail so much that it bled.

Anyway, here is where we found the kittens living:

Their home:

They traveled in the same carrier home that I brought Patty to Wisconsin in. Patty got the run of the car but unfortunately the kittens lost that privilege right away by crawling under the seats and wedging themselves there.  Here they are snugglin’ up:

We went to the vet before we left for Florida on Tuesday. The vet confirmed that they had ringworm and gave me a really stinky lyme sulphur dip for that and some clavamox for the URIs.  They are looking so much better.  GET A LOAD of how cute they are…

Kitten #1, Kyle, named after my nephew, a big, healthy kitten with no ringworm:

Kitten #2, with the hurt tail, named for Shannon, the girl who helped her and wanted to keep her if it weren’t for roommate sisters who don’t like cats!

Tongue action..

Here’s kitten #3, Kalia.. She has a bit of calico markings on the back of her head. Shannon suggested the name Cali and then immediately followed it up with, “But that’s probably a really common name for calicos, right?” I said, “Hey, how about Kalia?” That’s my niece’s name and very close..:) So Kalia it is!

I interrupted her meal to get this pic, as you can probably see. She literally LAYS in the bowl and sucks the food down. I had to feed the five kittens with FOUR bowls the other day so they could all get some. Sillies.

Here’s Manda, named for my niece Amanda.. this was her favorite from second one:

Amanda holding Manda, so you can have some scale:

And finally, here is Cheeto. He’s orange (peach, really) and Cheeto sounds like cheetah and also I like Cheetos, so there ya go. He absolutely looks like an angel:

Cheeto and Kyle each weight over 1.5 lbs so will be ready soon to be neutered and go to their new homes. The girls were the sick ones so will need some more time to get up to the 2 lb limit, but we’re taking applications for all of them. If any South Floridians are interested, please contact me for an application!!  :)

Poor tumor kitty..

I got a request from Cat Pals to help fundraise for this poor kitty, so here we are!  this poor kitty is living on the beach in Hollywood. He’s a poor, dumped kitty. The volunteers who feed and care for those cats noticed this boy with a huge tumor (grapefruit sized) on his belly so took him to the vet and paid out of pocket to remove the tumor. Awesome, right?

Here is the chipin: http://catpals.chipin.com/poor-tumor-laden-kitty

Please chip in if you can. I’m hoping those poor volunteers aren’t going to have to pay for the whole surgery themselves!

Just sayin’ hi! :)

Hello there! I’ve been so busy – SO BUSY. Three kitten adoptions last week, two this week.. working so hard to place them but homes are so hard to come by! So I’m up to 5 kittens in my bathroom (the 2 orange ones, the grey one I just trapped, and 2 adorable little tabbies from the rescue) and 1 adult (Patty from a previous post).

The orange babies have REALLY COME AROUND. They do the happy paw thing and everything. Still skittish, but amazing improvement.  I am taking pix of them within the next couple of days to put them up for ADOPTION. They’re going up for adoption through the rescue and I need to give them names so we’re going to do a $25 name-the-cat thing. I have been kicking names around and have hard a hard time with it so am hoping someone comes up with something cute and we raise a little money to boot!

Here is my grey boy that I just trapped.. He’s SO FUNNY. He has doubled his weight since I trapped him.. not his size, just his weight. He is so happy to have food available 24/7 that he just gobbles all day. He has this big belly now.. He’s just a purr baby. Looks totally freaked when you  hold him and puts his tail between his legs, but never runs away and just purrs the whole time you hold him. Strange kitty. Very quick picture-takin’… taken just for someone who was interested in a 3-month-old cat and then they didn’t want him anyway, but whatever. We’ll find him someone!

Here’s a bigger pic of my little chubster:

This gorgeous boy was at my house for, oh, two hours before he found a home..

Natalie is one of the tabbies in my bathroom right now.. I need a non-grumpy pic, eh?

Marcy is the best tabby ever.. no good pics (nice background!) but truly just a sweetheart. She lives in my bathroom too.

This is Cody, who went to his new home on Sunday with his new mom Sundae.:D I had him for a week.. and was sad to see him go but also ecstatic since he was one of my escape artists!

And this is Chucky, the sweet boy I saved from being brought back to the shelter to a very uncertain (and with a grim prognosis) future. He was adopted by a loving girl named Danielle. He was the best little kitten!

Good news! My black foster babies from the last post got adopted – both of them went to great homes! Yipee!:) Wanna see how great they look?  Here’s the boy, who is now named Drake:

What a beautiful pup, huh?

Right now I’m fostering one dog on top of the cats.. This is a puppy I FELL IN LOVE WITH when I first saw her. I’ve been pestering my husband ever since to let me adopt her (he’s not budging). Then tonight I went over to the rescue for a meeting and she was a whole different dog. Thinner, super dehydrated, looking just listless and sick. Blah. I asked if it would help to take her home and give her TLC and they said  yes so I called hubby and got the OK to bring her home. This was her a week ago:

Yes, that’s a cat bed. She’s SO TINY. She has two sisters but they’re both doing better.

Here is a favorite pic I took last week at an adoption event. The girl holding the kitten in the picture was in love with her but couldn’t take her home. She didn’t have a name yet so I asked the girl if she wanted to name her.. She said she’s Noodle. (NOODLE!) A little squirmy lovey noodle.  Sounded good to me! Noodle was adopted just a few days later by a nice lady named Pilar and her son. They report that she is indeed a sweet little love noodle and they love her to death.:)

In happy news… I was in Key West this past weekend. Cat lovers’ dream city! There are cats everywhere, bowls of food and water on porches everywhere you go..  I know there are a lot of strays but there are a lot of people that look after them so they do pretty well. Check out this boy:

That’s one HEALTHY stray, huh? This guy, a really fat (I’m talking FAT) tabby cat, and like 3-4 identical kitties were all living at what appeared to be a house turned business office, but there were bowls all over the porch and the cats were chillin’ on the yard and under the porch. They all have ear notches and were all the best fed strays so I was able to say hi to them and walk away smiling.:)

My rescue is awesome and they take all sorts of sad cases. This is Wyley the husky pup.. yes, a husky:

He’ll be beautiful one day! He’s already looking better from when I took these last week, actually.  And one last picture, Lucky the lab.. He’s been at the rescue for a couple of weeks. WHY? Shouldn’t such a beautiful, sweet dog have been snapped up by now?

OK, I will be sure to update soon with new kitten pictures. Another foster home for the rescue is watching a 3-week-old kitten that was in a GARBAGE TRUCK (yes, thrown away!!) and spotted falling out of it by a keen-eyed and kind woman who rescued him. I’m going to go take pictures of the amazing little boy soon so watch out for that too!:)

My foster pups’ video!

Would you believe no one has been interested in these guys yet? Well, one lady was but then her dad surprised her with a puppy so she backed out. ?! (I couldn’t help but write back that I hope he didn’t BUY the puppy.)

I went to the local Animal Control yesterday to take the girl dog and some other rescue animals in for their spay/neuters. Some people that were surrendering their pets came into the building and were in line with me. I made small talk with the one family that had their dog.. They were in line for getting him fixed. They corrected me, no, we’re surrendering him. Ugh. Pretty black & white terrier mix with his tail between his legs. I stood there wondering to myself if I could take him home and NOT have my husband divorce me. Then the dog snapped at me so I decided I couldn’t take him.. he was probably scared but I really have a crazy enough house where I don’t need dogs that snap. But I told them their dog’s chances (ooh, the mom was NOT happy with me for saying this in front of her son) and told them they’d be better off finding him a home by themselves.

Then a girl came in with a kitten. Same thing.. she realized she was in the wrong place and went out to surrender him at the surrendering office. The kitten was adorable and the girl was crying her eyes out.. I ran after her and said I’d take the kitten. So I did. His name is Chuck and he’s 8 weeks and adorable. I am hoping to find him a home this weekend at an adoption event. I then had to call my husband and tell him he’d be mad at me.. he wasn’t too mad, especially after he met the kitten. I can’t even go into the stats of this shelter for cats, but let’s just say he very likely would not have made it out. Since he’s little, his chances are better than the adults.. the cats over 6 mos that are brought in really have like a 1% chances of being adopted. For real.

I was in there for 40 minutes. I should not have come into contact with ANY of the pets being surrendered, but unfortunately I did and it made me sick to my stomach. The rescue I’m working with didn’t even realize how bad it was for cats at that shelter.. now we’ve done our homework and it sounds like we’re going to try to implement a program to get more of those cats out of there. Kittens that are under 2 months and may need to be bottle fed or something.. they are all put to sleep if they can’t find fosters (and from the numbers, I don’t think many do) so if I can find homes for the babies I have now we’re going to try to save some of those.  I’d take more adults in a heartbeat but they’re just not adoptable. I have 1 female tabby here who has seen kittens come and go and come and go but she just sits here, no one interested. Actually she is meeting a potential adopter tomorrow at the event hopefully but it seems that for every adult cat you adopt out you adopt out like 10 kittens. My next pet cat will be a rescued adult, for sure, but I can’t reason out saving 1 adult when I could save a dozen kittens in his place. Agh.

Pics of that baby soon.

Update!

Sorry I’ve been so slow w/ updates! I’ve been busier than you can imagine!

I went and trapped on Thursday night. I went early in the hopes I could get home early and to bed at a decent time so I wouldn’t be dead the next day after dropping the cats off to be fixed. MISTAKE. Turns out stray cats don’t really start coming out until midnight so I sat there for 2 hours only having caught one cat.  This one:

He’s so funny.. has to be the brother to that Russian blue and tuxedo kittens I caught. Acts the EXACT same way — is scared w/ his tail between his legs but purrs instantly when you hold him. Obviously, no ear notch for him.. He’s in my bathroom now with the other kittens.:)

I ended up catching 4 cats in all. I got home at mmm.. 2 a.m.?  4+ hours after I left. Then I noticed one of the very upset cats had HIS EARS NOTCHED. Both! How did I miss that? Such an amateur move! So I had to drive him all the way back, and then I was back to having 2 empty traps (I had moved the above grey kitten into a carrier) so I thought I’d make the best of it.  I had 1 kitten IN a trap sniffing around and 2 others sniffing at the other trap…. when a cat fight broke out between some adults and EVERYONE scattered.  I WAS SO MAD.  So I got home at about 3 the second time.  NOT a good night.

Anyway, so this was another fail for the evening… This girl here? She didnt’ seem feral.. just very dirty and hungry..

They put her under, shaved her down… and discovered that she was already spayed. She was dehydrated so they gave her some fluids and notched her ear and that was that.  GRR.  But the one true success of the evening?

This girl is the mother of those 4 babies from inside this thing:

Remember?  I went back to trap numerous times and she always avoided the trap. Not this time!  When I picked her up, it said MALE on her paperwork and I was like, wha? Did I catch the wrong black cat?  The tech came out and said, no, no.. that was definitely a female — she was pregnant.  PREGNANT! AGAIN!  I was very happy to hear that another litter would not be born in this thing and crawling with fleas and suffering from coccidia. I am very happy that this sweet tiny girl can now just concentrate on HERSELF and not worry about getting chased down by boys or having to provide for mewing little babies.

I still have work to do there, but this is 2 more down.. and an additional one now marked so I won’t waste my time bringing her in.  I have to go through to see who’s donations are covering these.. not now as I need to go to bed (headache!) but I wanted to let you guys know that I am still working on them!

And say hi to my other fosters…!

These are the orange kittens.. see a few posts back.  They are still scared. Still run from me, but purr when I do catch them. This is their favorite place to sleep now. IN A BASKET, how cute is that?:) They’re so lovey with each other.. it’s adorable.

See how this boy purrs?

And I have two PUPPIES right now too. Adorable little lab mixes. I’ve had them since last weekend I guess it is now. Enjoying the hell out of it even if it’s making for a lot more mess!  The boy probably has a home.. the girl, not yet. We’ll see!

I’m fostering these babies for No Paw Left Behind. They were taken from the shelter w/ a horrible case of scabies.  This was them just a few weeks ago:

Amazing, right?

I had Terra for just a few days before she went to a foster home that was leaning towards being her forever home last I heard:

Remember Frank? Tuxedo cat’s brother? That was the last name I settled on. Anyway, he found a home approximately 12 hours after we put him on Petfinder. He was another kitten caught from behind the cell phone store, so now that makes 7 kittens taken from there and not put back.:)

After Frank got adopted, I told my rescue that I needed another cat- and people-friendly cat to hang out with my orange kittens to show them that people were not bad.  This is the one I got.. a nice tiger girl who is only 9 months old. She was adopted with her sister as a kitten but returned when they were about 7 months old. Her sister got adopted but she still hasn’t. She’s still with me. I love her.. she’s great.. good with the puppies, with the other cats.. but since my cats go outside and she can’t, I have to  keep her in the guest room most of the time with one of the kittens.:(

I named her Patty and I’m trying trying trying to find her a home.

This girl is from the rescue too.. She was caught in a feral colony and fixed. I had her for about a week. I had sub-par pix of her so one day was like, “WE NEED BETTER PICTURES!” and my husband helped me get them. I put her on Craigslist the next day and within TEN MINUTES I had a call on her and within an hour she was gone — to a nice guy who had another cat who needed a friend.

Last one.. my Remy (used to be Bobby) was one of the cell phone store cats. He was adopted at 8 weeks and returned last week at 10 weeks old. He’s SO fun.. energetic.. sweet.. cuddly and purry.. so now he’s hanging out with Patty.  HE NEEDS A HOME SO BAD.

See what I mean, busy?:) We had one other foster dog in here too.. just for a few days.. she was awesome but went to a foster-to-adopt home just about 3 days after I got her. I don’t even have a pic of her posted so I can’t show you.

Thanks again to everyone who donated to get the store cats fixed. And thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed the pix! Off to nap and force my affection on one of the orange kittens.:D

Howdy

I really have not forgotten about this. Sorry! I’ve been very busy. Involved with a new rescue and actually marketing my business for a change.:D

So much has happened. Tuxie got a home and grey kitten got a home, so now I have the two orange babies that hate people. Guess what, though? They both purr now.  They still run from me BUT THEY PURR so I’m happy.

No cats fixed this past week.. I kinda have to have my whole day available since I have to drop off in the a.m. and pick up in the p.m. AND drive them back to their homes, and no day has worked out so far. But I may try for this Sunday evening. Wish me luck! I have FOUR TRAPS now – I borrowed two from my rescue. I hope to catch at LEAST four for next week.

Update w/ pics and videos soon…!

Kittens & dogs – update!

Hi guys!  OK, first off – you guys rock. We raised the full $350. !!!  I’ll be going off to trap tomorrow night again, at least 2, hopefully 3 (like last time — that rocks!!). I hope to get a better idea of how many are still out there too.

I have some awesome, awesome news. ALL my last kittens got homes! Here’s the scoop:

First, the grey girl, now Nikita, is doing great in her new home. She is very much loved and from the sounds of it was getting along with her new sister (brother?) from day one:

How sweet & perfect is this? MY cats don’t get along this well, and these 2 just met! Their mom, Petra, said they just love each other — they play all day long. I love to hear that because not only does Nikita have a happy life, but the other kitty’s life just got a lot brighter too.:)

I got a call from a guy named Tim who was interested in my tuxedo kitty I put on Craigslist (Fritzy). He and his girlfriend had just put their tuxedo cat to sleep. He was only about 3 but got very sick and they went through weeks of different vets trying to make him better and nothing was working. He was suffering and not eating and vomiting and they did the kindest thing they could and put him to sleep. They were still grieving when they saw Fritzy but something just sparked with them so they called. We tried to coordinate a time and it didn’t really sound like it was going to work out until after the weekend (I was out of town) but then I remembered I had to drop my dogs off at my sister-in-law’s in Boca and it turns out Tim and his girlfriend Darlene live about 5 minutes from her. Yay! I said I’d bring WHOEVER was still available just in case they actually fell for one of the others.

At this point, Gabe was SUPPOSED to be taken. But I had a funny feeling about the girl. She had a good app and all, but I just had a funny feeling. So I got off the phone with Tim and texted her. Sure enough, she wasn’t taking him any longer. So the next day I took Gabe, Fritz, and Bobby the black kitten with me up to their house on Thursday.

Fritz was being a little aloof and Gabe was being his usual charming self from minute one. I could tell Tim & Darlene really WANTED to like Fritz more but Gabe was too adorable to ignore. I knew Fritz would come around too but he wasn’t going to do it in mere minutes. After maybe 45 minutes, I suggested they watch them both for the weekend so they could have the whole time to decide. They jumped at the idea and I left quite happy. I didn’t let myself think about it too much, but a little part of me hoped that they fell for both of them. I got a text that night that they already were… They thought about it through Sunday, at which point it was official – they wanted them both. Yipee! I’ll be going up this week to see them and bring their paperwork. Oh, and the Albon worked its magic and the coccidia is all gone.. I got firm-poop reports from all the kitty parents.:):)

I got a call on my drive home from Tim & Darlene’s house from a girl who was interested in the black kitty. Long story short, she’s moving into a new place and they told her she could have pets. She was all excited and got the black kitty and named him Remy. When she mentioned it to her landlord he said, “Oh, when I said you could have a pet, I didn’t mean a cat” and went on to say that he didn’t want a litterbox in the house (it was a roommate situation apparently) but she could keep him strictly outdoors. Um. So anyway, she tried to talk them into it yesterday but ended up heartbrokenly bringing him back last night. Today she called and said that she missed Remy so much that she was backing out of the place she was supposed to move to and staying in her current place instead, where she COULD have the kitten (it was just more expensive there). Yipee again!

Here is Remy along with my two older babies. I got a pic of Remy & his mama but I have to upload it still. I was so glad she came back because he really wasn’t used to being in a room by himself or even locked away with the other cats… And today I discovered someone had peed in about 5 places on my carpet so they went into crate lockdown. Remy sat and cried and cried.:( The older 2 are back out now. We’re hoping there’s no peeing anymore or they’ll be crated or moved to the bathroom. I like them in this room, so I hope they can stay here. I may even separate them, depending on how the tuxedo kitty behaves. I keep telling him, “But I thought we were friends!”

The grey kitten is coming around WONDERFULLY. He doesn’t run from me and will even purr. The tuxedo kitten regressed once I got grey kitten but finally today seems to be coming back around. THEY get along well and play so you wouldn’t think it would affect him negatively, but it has. Now the craziest thing? I haven’t even put him up anywhere for adoption and I got an email tonight from someone LOCAL who’s interested in him, even knowing how scared he is. I’m trying to not get my hopes up too much but oh my would that just be awesome. I KNOW he’ll come around to be a great pet but it’ll take some time.. if someone else wanted to put that month or whatever into him, I could concentrate on the grey one. That’d be awesome. Wish us luck!

Last bit of news, the rescue I’ve been working with needed a foster home for a sad story cocker spaniel. I tried to talk my husband into it yesterday. He was thinking about it. Then I heard they had a foster for the spaniel but there was a tiny maltese who needed a short-term foster home. My husband agreed to it. She had her first prospective adopters today.. they loved her but were hoping for something a big bigger(??) so she is probably still on the market, but I can’t imagine for long!

Her name is Gracie. She’s about 3 years old and weighs 8 lbs. She is INCREDIBLY sweet and docile. She had a whole mess of dead (and some alive) ticks on her last night.. they gave her treatment but it was still working on them.. and I had to pull them off her and clean her up and give her a bath and cut matted fur off her face and she JUST LET ME. I would’ve had to pin my own dogs down to do that but she was just so good.  We love her.:)And look, she wore bunny ears for me!

Kittttttehs!

So the first foster from my store litter went home today.:)I was um like totally crazy today so I had about 10 min to spiff Serena up and get ready for her new mama to come. I grabbed a few pictures.

She looks scared because she was.. she was seeing dogs for almost the first time out the window!

“Wuh?”

Today all her brothers got fixed and she was home alone with me. She just cried and cried in the bathroom so I took her in bed with me to snuggle. She is such a little love bug.. snuggly and doing happy paws. Such a sweetie!

Here Serena is trying to look big for Gretchen. Also, she’s wet because I had just cleaned her ears.:)

Hi, I’m sweet!

Her name is Nikita now, by the way, and she has a gorgeous big brother.:)

So last night I caught two girl kitties and a baby boy kitty. He’s about 3 mos old.. did I say this before? From the same litter as my tuxie I’m sure. It wasn’t exactly a happy reunion.. tuxie was growling and stuff. I hope it wasn’t a step backward for us! But now he has a friend to snuggle with at least. And the grey kitten is so cute..:)I’m glad he’s not on the street!

I caught him with a grey girl adult cat. I thought it was a boy but it was a girl it turns out. I tried to get a snap of her in the trap before I let her out but she was going craaaazy. This is as much as I got of her:

Thank you to Nancy C. for fixing this girl. She was a pretty grey girl. I was so happy that she was a girl actually.. It’s good to get both sexes fixed, of course, but it feels more like you’re directly preventing litters when you manage to spay a girl stray.  I wish I had gotten a picture of her… I’m learning about trying to get pics of these guys! I think next time I’m just bringing the point & shoot.

Here’s the other girl I caught, a wild-looking girl cat:

See how she’s freaking out? Soon after I took this pic she started head-butting the carrier and it actually moved forward. Time to let her go!  Thank you to Jessica D. and Lorraine G. for fixing this girl.  I appreciate your donations so much!!! Lorraine, you were so generous that you also fixed the grey three-month old kitten and we have more to go! I’ll get pics of the grey kitten very soon.

Here is my tuxie boy.  He is a sweetie and loves to purr… not tonight so much but I hope we get back to normal soon.

Scared kitty body language:

He’s staying in a big dog crate for now (along with his brother now).  If you let these guys run around they just hide under something and you never see them; no good for taming them. He’s out and about right now and hot hiding, which is good… I’m using the feather on a stick on ‘em!:)

Not great news and then great news? Gabe’s adoptive mama backed out. I had a feeling. But I got a call from a man who just lost his cat, a 3-year-old who sadly had to be put to sleep. He and his wife decided to adopt again right away and he saw my Craigslist post. It just so happens that I have to go to his town tomorrow to drop my dogs off at my sister-in-law’s so I’m stopping by with the kittens and letting him have his pick. Wish us luck!

I gotta be up early so further videos and pics will have to wait.

Thanks again for your donations, everyone.. Names are still coming up as I catch more cats. Look forward to more spay/neuter pics next week; hopefully better ones!

oh my gosh, you guys are awesome!!!!

look at how much $$$ we’ve raised via chipin! nearly the goal of $350!

and perfect timing because guess who caught THREE kitties tonight?! three! with only two traps! thankfully one was an adorable little grey kitten i was able to transfer from the trap to a carrier pretty easily and then i could re-use the trap.:):)i got what i think is a boy grey cat, full-grown, a really pretty fluffy and wild-looking girl kitty who has a belly on her (trust me, it gave me pause when i saw it but when it comes down to her it’s a better future for her if we take her in), and a little 3-month-old grey kitten, almost certainly the brother of the tuxedo kitten i have.

i tried to trap one this afternoon as i happened to be in the neighborhood but she has a tipped ear?! i got a picture of it to show the stray aid lady to make sure it is definitely a TNR ear notch.

i saw my black mama again but she wanted nothing to do with me or my stinky sardines and just moseyed away.

i’m leaving out a note for my husband tonight to take a look at him and let me know if he wants me to return him or if he wants to keep him to tame him up. he’s sweet but scared, just like the tuxie. we’re over our cat max, so i can’t really argue with him if he wants me to return him, but i thought at least i’d try.

i’ll be issuing individual thank-yous as the money gets used to fix the kitties.  pics after i take them in tomorrow!
